How To Improve Your Relationship With Yourself

How To Improve Your Relationship With Yourself

Why is it important to have a good relationship with yourself?

The relationship that you have with yourself is the most important, it sets the tone for all other relationships.. the stronger your relationship with yourself, the stronger your others can be.

Your longest relationship is the one you have with yourself, you will always have yourself when no one is around, therefore we must make it as best as can be.

Would you speak to someone you loved the way you talk to yourself?

I will now outline 12 ways in which you can improve your relationship with yourself:

1. GET COMFORTABLE WITH BEING ALONE

This will help you build mental strength & become happier in the long run. It is proven that people who enjoy spending time alone experience less depression. You get to know yourself when alone. Fewer distractions mean it is easier for you to work towards your goals. You can make choices without the influence of others.

2. PRACTICE SELF-LOVE

Self-love will help you make healthy choices in life. Ways it can help: confidence, understanding yourself, making healthy choices, insecurities, the relationships around you & relieving stress.

3. LIMIT TIME ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Scrolling on social media is a very bad habit that we must eliminate. Set time limits on your iPhone by going to 'settings' 'screen time' and 'app limits'. It can lead you into comparing yourself to others. Comparison is the thief of joy. We can compare body types, looks, lifestyle etc, which can leave you feeling empty and depressed. Make sure the pages that you follow spread positivity, help you become the best version of yourself & make you vibrate high.

4. CREATE GOOD DAILY HABITS

Examples of good habits that will help with your relationship with yourself include a morning routine, self-developing, goal setting, setting your intentions for the day the night before, practising gratitude, speaking kindly to yourself & having an hour without your phone for focused work/development.

5. AVOID THE WORDS HOPE AND HOPEFULLY

These words I dislike because they bring about doubt. Using these words shows that you do not have much belief in yourself. Change these words to 'I am 'I will' 'It is 'I know that' What you speak about you bring about, so make sure to be careful of the words you affirm.

6. HAVE A GOOD DIET & DRINK LOTS OF WATER

What you eat and drink has a major impact on your mood, appearance, fitness & general lifestyle. Drinking a lot of water will keep you hydrated and you will work more efficiently. If you feel tired or lack energy drink a glass of water, it will make you more productive. Even if you do not want to go vegan, add a lot of fruit and veg into your daily diet, try to avoid processed foods or only consume from time to time.

7. MEDITATE

Meditation will allow you to be present in the moment, you will become aware of yourself & your thoughts, and you will be guided to a place of true peace. It will allow you to calm your nerves and worries (if you have any) you can visualize a particular goal which helps you focus and truly believe that your goal is in reach, with no distractions.

8. SMILE & LAUGH MORE

Make time to smile & laugh, even if you don't feel like smiling.. smile right now & you will feel a sense of happiness, you will trick your brain into thinking you genuinely are happy. Also, people love being around someone who is always smiling, it can also lead to more opportunities for you.

9. FAILURE IS A LESSON

Most people believe that failing is a bad thing, I however like to look at them as good because we now know where we went wrong & which tends to not repeat because it will lead us to that result that we do desire. Fail more.. succeed more.

10. GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

The treasure you seek lies in the cave that you are afraid to enter. Your comfort zone is a trap. Nothing good comes from your comfort zone, get uncomfortable every day. Expand your mind, grow and do things that make you uncomfortable. Write an uncomfortable list. How you do this is by writing the date on the top of a page, and writing a list of 5 things that make you feel uncomfortable or have a fear of doing. Work towards them every day, once you have completed the list.. make a new one.

11. SEEK INTERNAL VALIDATION

Try to avoid seeking self-worth from sources outside of yourself. Try doing things without having to ask for an outside opinion. In some cases you would seek opinions from those who have the results that you want, but try to trust your own voice in certain situations.

12. USE AFFIRMATIONS

Below I will list some affirmations to help with improving your relationship with yourself:

- I am worthy of love from myself & others

- My goals and dreams are within reach
